AICTE Idea Lab

Vision

To be a state-of-the-art Innovation-centric laboratory that facilitates Engineering graduates to become more imaginative & creative, also providing transformative 21st-century skills and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem among students by bridging the industry and academia in accordance with the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Objectives

  • Encourage students for applying the STEM concepts towards product visualization 
  • To provide students with 21st-century skills like problem-solving, creative thinking etc.,
  • To facilitate students and faculty members to engage, explore, experience, express, and excel. 
  • To guide and support students in participating in ideation challenges/hackathons like SIH, AICTE Chhatra Vishwakarma AwardsNational Innovation Contest, etc.
  • Promoting and implementing various schemes and initiatives of the government in relation to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Benefits to students (UG/PG/Projects/Internship) and sta ff (FDP/Projects) to be
mentioned quantitatively

  • As per curriculum, all 2000 + students of the final year and prefinal year students take up projects as a part of the curriculum in the already existing Product Development Centres, Project Labs, Industry Powered Labs, Centres of Excellence, Academic Labs with Research Funded Laboratories of the institution.
  • By establishing AICTE IDEA Lab, students will have the facilities required for designing, developing, fabricating and the quality of projects will be drastically improved.
  • Every year apart from the academic projects, at least 1400 students take part in the various national-level project and innovation contests like Smart India Hackathon, DST-TI Innovation contest, MITSHUBUSHI ELECTRIC CUP, TATA Crucible, Chatra Viswakarma Award, Flipkart Challenge, E-Yantra Contest, etc., with the available facilities. We forecast an increase in additional participation of students in such events will be doubled after the establishment of the facility.
  • Faculty members act as mentors to all projects and competitions that students participate and efforts are taken to convert all projects into patents. As the quality of the projects increase, IPR will have good increase by 20%.
  • With the AICTE IDEA Lab, hands on experience and interdisciplinary projects can be given to the students which will improve the skill and technical competency of students by solving real world challenges thereby increasing the employability prospects of the students with increased mean CTC by 10% and increase in a number of successful student entrepreneurship.
  • Under AICTE IDEA lab all the facilities will be brought together and will be made open to all industry and academic institutions to utilize thus opening up for a larger crowd to get benefitted.
  • 65 faculty members can be benefitted directly by attending FDP and Boot camp programmes and more than 1000 students can be benefitted directly by attending Skilling Programme, Workshops, Internship organized through IDEA Lab for every year.

Integration of idea lab with
existing facilities

  • Agni College of Technology has Centres of Excellence in various emerging fields and the major/advanced equipment available at the centers will be integrated properly and the facilities can be shared by Idea lab as well.
  • Agni Institution Innovation Council under MIC will also be involved effectively in facilitating students to accomplish the objectives of the IDEA lab.
  • Garuda Aerospace is inhouse Initiatives of entrepreneurship at Agni College of Technology, which focuses on the design, build, and customization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones for various applications. Garuda Aerospace expertise and resources will also be integrated with IDEA lab.
  • Agni PRIDE is student-centric forum of Agni College of Technology which provides transformative skills to the students especially in the area of Project, Research, Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship will be integrated with the IDEA lab.

  • Agni College of technology has always aligned itself with the vision of the nation and had promoted & implemented all the schemes, national initiatives, etc.,
  • Institute has organized various programmes on National Educational Policy to create awareness on students and faculty members.
  • Agni College of Technology is the approved Host Institute (HI) for the scheme “Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of MSMEs through Incubators;. Under Ministry of Micro Small & Medium Enterprises, Govt of India and facilitating students, Alumni, etc., to become entrepreneur.
  • Skilling India programs being organized to the student community to enhance their employability skills, providing digital learning solutions, etc.,
  • The institution has a repository of the problem statements given in SIH, Collection of Industrial Engineering Challenges, Community projects, National mission documents, Technology Vision 2035, etc.
  • Institution Innovation Council of Agni College of Technology is one among the high-performing council under MIC and conducted various Innovation, IPR & Entrepreneurial activities for students.
  • Agni PRIDE, a student-centric forum facilitates students to solve any of the aforesaid challenges and offer solutions with the support of faculty mentors and shall also be motivated to participate in national & international competitions and exhibits their skills thereby catering to the societal needs.
  • The institution has actively participated in Swachh Bharat Bbhiyan, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Fit India Moment, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Swachhta Pakhwada and has established Mahatma Gandhi Rural Entrepreneurship Development Cell as an outcome for the efforts taken. Similarly awareness of Arogya Setu, Covid vaccination was also provided to students and all stakeholders.
  • Also, conducted 24 IIC calendar activities, 25 MIC activities, and 118 self-driven activities by the institution where the cumulative score is 86.67 and based on these inputs students of Agni college of technology has won the prestigious AICTE Chaatra Vishwakarma Award consecutively two times in the 2020 & 2021
  • Smart India Hackathon (SIH) a major initiative of MHRD providing a platform for students to come out with innovative solutions has been well utilized by the institution. In SIH 2018, 84 teams from the institution participated. During 2019, 108 teams participated and in 2020, 84 teams participated in the internal hackathon for SIH.

Plan for Substance of
idea lab

  • The Idea generated & Design/Product developed will be patented and facilitate the students concerned to become entrepreneurs in realizing Atmanirbar Bahrat.
  • Collaborating with Industries with appropriate funding and Institute faculty expertise in searching technical solutions to Social/Industrial problems and making IDEA Lab a state of art center with advanced facilities to support our country with interdisciplinary research and projects.
  • The expertise gained from the IDEA lab will be used to attract consultancy projects and the fund generated would be used for IDEA lab sustenance.
  • The lab shall serve as a platform for the many small and medium scale industries in the rural areas near Chennai and to incubate their new projects/ideas at a very nominal cost.
  • The facilities and expertise available shall be publicized and encouraged to carry out their pilot projects here at IDEA Lab.
